Tazacorte is situated on the western coast of La Palma and has a population of over 6,600 people, most of whom are rural. This is where Alonzo Fernandez began his conquest of La Palma back in 1492.

Farmlands dominate the landscape to the west and the central parts. The eastern part is made up mainly of forests, grasslands, and mountains. Tazacorte is home to the Adidane Valley.

The surrounding skyline is completely dominated by banana trees. They're everywhere! The town itself is mostly dominated by the Iglesia de San Miguel Arcangel, which was built in the 16th century and later refurbished and extended in 1992. It now has a magnificent, abstract stained glass window.

Beside the church you'll see a beautiful pergola lined with ceramic tiles and overgrown with bougainvillea. This is the traditional meeting place for most of the locals. Tazacorte is linked with the highway that encircles the whole island as well as a road to the eastern half of the island and is located west of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and WNW of the Las Palmas Airport.

For a spectacular view of Los Llanos, Tazacorte and the surrounding mountains and ocean, head north to Mirador (just 12 kms away).
